Established in 2008, CMC Telecom aims to become the top telecommunications service provider in Vietnam. In June this year, CMC Telecom was named ‘Most Outstanding Telecommunications Service Provider of the Year’ among the winners of APAC Insider Magazine’s 2018 Global Excellence Awards programme. On the back of this, we spoke to Dang Tung Son – Deputy Chief Executive Officer, to find out more about this innovative firm, and how they aim to become a global giant in the TMT sector.
CMC Telecom was launched to set a new standard in the Vietnamese telecommunications market, and provide best in class services in the region that is truly embracing the global digitisation movement. For the last ten years, CMC Telecom has reinforced their position as Vietnam’s premier telecoms company, offering client-centric and innovative solutions and services to their customers.
To start the interview, Dang Tung Son gives a brief overview of CMC Telecom’s background and operations. “CMC Telecom is a member of CMC Corporation. In May 2015, CMC Telecom became the only telecommunications infrastructure service provider in Vietnam with a foreign strategic shareholder – TIME dotCom, the second largest fix lined operator in Malaysia. Today, CMC Telecom owns 2,500Km of fibre optic backbones named the Cross-Vietnam Cable System or CVCS, which is globally connected to submarine optical cables and three Neutral Data Centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. CMC Telecom provides internet services, data transmission, and data centres for businesses, government agencies and international companies. Roughly half of CMC Telecom customers and partners are on Forbes’ Top 100 Global Brands.”
In the midst of Vietnam’s digital revolution, CMC Telecom is aware that they need to stay ahead and capitalise on emerging developments in the sector to secure their position at the forefront of the market. Across Asia, adaptation and evolution have become the new buzz words in the TMT industry. In this, Dang Tung Son fundamentally agrees, as he moves to discuss the developments in the sector. “The telecommunications industry is experiencing rapid growth every year on the back of business demands for better internet services and bandwidth. The latest industry revolution, revolving around the latest technologies like robotics, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, has sparked a need for a reliable and secure telecommunications network.”
“We want to be the leading telecommunications service provider in Vietnam providing integrated telecommunications and high-quality IT services. We are continuously investing in advanced and latest technologies to ensure we exceed customer expectations.”
Tung Son continues, “CMC Telecom keep up to date with the latest technologies and techniques to engage the market. We design our products and services based on market needs – we always ensure we invest in robust infrastructure and technologies that are scalable and dynamic to adapt to any changes of market demands. For instance, in July this year, CMC Telecom became the first service provider in the world to achieve the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) 3.0 certification. This certification represents CMC Telecom’s ability to deliver high-quality local, national and global Ethernet services that are seamless, with the same interoperability and performance features, no matter the location.”
This highlights just one way that CMC Telecom has distinguished itself in a notoriously competitive sector, as Dang Tung Son shares a few more. “We focus, above all, on service level quality, ensuring that our customers are well managed by our dedicated accounts managers and customer service representatives. We design various loyalty programmes continuously to keep our customers coming back and upgrade to other services as well.”
Finally, in his closing comments, Tung Son shares a few of the challenges that CMC Telecom has had to overcome to be successful in the region. “The main challenge is to compete with international service providers who typically have strong brands and funding. As a result, we need to find unique position that differentiate us from others. Luckily, through our shareholder, TIME dotCom, we can provide services to multiple companies within the Asia Pacific and guarantee our success for years to come.”
