CMC Corporation kickstarts Ho Chi Minh City’s “AI Heart” with Hyperscale Data Center at SHTP

Jul 15, 2025

At the end of June 2025, the Management Board of Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) officially approved CMC Corporation’s investment in the CMC Hyperscale Data Center project worth over USD 250 million. More than just a digital infrastructure facility at the gateway to East Saigon, this project serves as a catalyst for CMC to build a hyperscale data infrastructure, driving its AI Transformation – Go Global strategy and helping position Vietnam on the global technology map.

The CMC Hyperscale DC SHTP is not an ordinary data center but is designed to be the “heart” for massive data storage, computation, and analytics, providing AI-as-a-Service, Cloud infrastructure, Big Data, and Cyber Security services to millions of users. The entire center integrates next-generation network technologies such as XGS-PON, SD-WAN, SASE, and an 800G DWDM optical transport network, ensuring ultra-high bandwidth, stable and secure connections from core to edge.

A technological highlight is the Digital Twin system, which enables real-time simulation and operational monitoring, optimizing the data center’s overall performance. At the same time, CMC prioritizes deploying renewable energy solutions, offering an environmentally friendly approach that meets modern Green DC standards. The initial design capacity is 30 MW, expandable to 120 MW, ready to serve massive computing needs for AI development and the digital economy.

Long-term vision: The “heart” driving AI and Go Global

What truly sets this project apart is not merely its scale but its long-term vision. Early on, CMC built an open ecosystem of CMC Cloud – AI – Big Data – Cyber Security, developing core capabilities such as a GPU farm with over 1,000 NVIDIA GH200 GPUs and pioneering Uptime Tier III data centers in Vietnam.

The Hyperscale DC SHTP represents a breakthrough upgrade, placing Vietnam on the Southeast Asian data infrastructure map and ready to welcome Big Tech and global AI enterprises. This is also the foundation to power and expand two key pillars of the national digital transformation mission:

– CMC Cloud – the Vietnamese-developed cloud computing platform

– C.OpenAI – an open AI ecosystem with 25 proprietary core AI technologies, including Computer Vision, LLM (Large Language Model), Voice Processing, Datalakehouse, and more.

Many AI products have been successfully commercialized and ranked highly on the global stage: C.Face (Top 12 globally, Top 1 in Vietnam according to NIST); C.OCR (SmartDocs); CLS legal assistant; AI Camera, AI Box, and more. Most recently, CMC ATI’s CATI-VLM model made it to the global Top 12 at the 2025 Robust Reading Competition, surpassing major players such as GPT-4 Vision Turbo, Amazon Textract, Baidu, and Deepseek.

Laying the foundation for Ho Chi Minh City to advance as an AI City

Beyond its technological significance, the Hyperscale DC SHTP is closely tied to a national mission. CMC is collaborating with Ho Chi Minh City and the C4IR Vietnam Center (part of the World Economic Forum’s Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network) to develop Vietnam’s first AI City model. This concrete action aligns with Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science & technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, and Resolution 68 on promoting the role of the private sector in the economy.

With this infrastructure, Ho Chi Minh City gains an added advantage in attracting R&D centers, AI startups, investment funds, and technology universities — turning its ambition of becoming the region’s Digital Hub into reality.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh – Chairman & Executive President of CMC Corporation – emphasized:
“We do not see the CMC Hyperscale Data Center SHTP as just a typical data center. This is a foundational infrastructure for Ho Chi Minh City to grow into the region’s Digital Hub, a core backbone serving digital and AI transformation, where Vietnamese businesses can access the most powerful computing resources without sending their data abroad. This is CMC Corporation’s concrete action to realize Resolution 57 on science & technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, as well as Resolution 68 on promoting the private sector’s role in the economy.”

Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh – Chairman of CMC Corporation: “Vietnamese enterprises are fully capable of mastering the most complex data infrastructure.”

As part of its Go Global strategy, CMC defines AI as the platform for Vietnam to compete globally. The Hyperscale Data Center in Ho Chi Minh City will expand AI-as-a-Service, Big Data-as-a-Service, and Cyber Security-as-a-Service offerings, not only for the domestic market but also to conquer international markets. For CMC, this is not merely an infrastructure project — it is a statement of its capability to master core technologies, partnering with major cities and nations under a world-class vision of AI Transformation and Digital Transformation.
