CMC Telecom accelerates global expansion with South Korea POP launch

Jun 19, 2025

CMC Telecom launches new POP in South Korea, cutting latency by 30% and boosting services for Korean Enterprises.

On June 16, 2025, CMC Telecom officially launched a new Point of Presence (POP) in South Korea, marking a significant milestone in its international digital infrastructure strategy and reaffirming its commitment to supporting Korean enterprises operating in Vietnam and the broader ASEAN region.

The new POP is located at Mokdong II within Korea Telecom (KT)’s data center – a long-standing strategic partner of CMC Telecom. As the company’s eighth international POP, this development strengthens its cross-border network and provides direct interconnectivity with all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in South Korea.

Accelerating cross-border performance for Korean businesses

According to CMC Telecom, the new infrastructure reduces network latency between South Korea and Vietnam by up to 30% compared to previous indirect routes. This improvement supports key services such as Network-to-Network Interface (NNI), Internet Leased Line (ILL), IP Transit, and Cloud solutions – enhancing digital transformation and cross-border IT operations for Korean enterprises.

Over the past 16 years, CMC Telecom has served major Korean clients including Samsung SDS, KT, LG U+, Shinhan Bank, SK Broadband, and SK Telink. These partners require highly stable, secure, and low-latency connectivity, which the new Mokdong II POP is designed to deliver.

The direct connection helps Korean businesses significantly reduce deployment times, expand networks faster, and maintain stable performance between headquarters in South Korea and operations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. This setup also enables localized cloud deployments, helping enterprises comply with regional regulations while maintaining global service standards.

Strengthening Vietnam–Korea digital infrastructure collaboration

CMC Telecom opened its branch in South Korea in 2017, identifying the country as a strategic hub in its international expansion. At the CMC Korea launch event, CMC Corporation’s Chairman emphasized the company’s three missions in South Korea: “Your Trusted Digital Partner”, “Accelerating Digital Transformation Together”, and “Preparing for the Green Future Together.”

The company’s growing presence aligns with the elevation of Vietnam–South Korea relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and their shared goal of reaching USD 150 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Enhanced digital infrastructure connectivity is a cornerstone of this relationship.

According to The Korea Times, the South Korean government has launched a USD 1.35 billion investment program in R&D for emerging technologies, creating new opportunities for infrastructure providers like CMC Telecom to contribute to the region’s digital transformation ecosystem.

Positioning Vietnam as a regional connectivity leader

The establishment of the Mokdong II POP affirms CMC Telecom’s status as one of the few Vietnamese telecom providers with globally scaled digital infrastructure that meets the stringent requirements of multinational enterprises.

With three Tier III-certified data centers and its own independent cloud infrastructure, CMC Telecom is executing its vision to become a globally recognized provider of digital infrastructure – contributing to a sustainable, integrated, and innovation-driven digital economy for Vietnam.
